For the past few years, Manchester City and England star Raheem Sterling has started to fulfil his massive potential with a little help from City head coach Pep Guardiola.
At Euro 2016, Sterling become the target for abuse from a minority of England fans and some less credible British tabloids. It has been a fantastic few years for the winger and he is becoming increasingly important for both club and country.
The winger scored a hat-trick and produced an assist against the Czech Republic in a 5-0 win for the Three Lions in their opening match of qualifying for Euro 2020. The winger will be back in an England shirt this evening when the Three Lions visit Montenegro in qualifying.
Sterling has developed so much in the last few years that the 24-year-old is now England’s most influential player. Captain Harry Kane was previously regarded as the Three Lions talisman.
However, the consensus among England fans now seems to be that Sterling is the player that is now England’s most dangerous attacking player, which in turn makes him the player that gives his team the lift when needed.
England have for too long lacked genuine world-class players. However, the Three Lions current squad is full of potential and exciting young players. Meanwhile, Kane is no doubt world-class, as is Sterling.
The winger is no longer the scapegoat he was during Euro 2016. Sterling has developed and matured on and off the pitch. His performances in France were those of a young player who was lacking confidence and unsure of himself.
Sterling seems a completely different character. The winger deserves massive credit for maturing so much. A sign of how far Sterling has come in recent years is the fact that he is now helping youngsters Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi to settle into the squad.
In short, Raheem Sterling has now developed into the quality of player who can get into any team in the world and is now England’s most important player.
