Tottenham are finally returning home and they arguably could not have picked a better time in which to do so. With their ailing Premier League form hampering their hopes of a top four finish, this could be the shot in the arm that the club will be looking for.
Just one point from the last twelve on offer, has meant that their hopes of turning this season’s title race from a two horse race into a three horse race have dissipated for good and now it’s all about securing a top four finish.
Should Mauricio Pochettino be able to achieve this objective then that in itself will feel like a trophy, especially when you consider that the club have not bought a player this season and all the issues that have come with stadium delays.
The move away from Wembley has been highly anticipated and because of this it has also been a huge point of frustration for fans, while it those same fans that could be the secret weapon in these last few weeks of the season.
That’s because with a new stadium, it means a whole new atmosphere in which to play in and if the reports are anything to go by, then it is certainly going to be a raucous one when Tottenham take to the field.
Many people talk about fans being the “12th man” and with a wall of noise at Tottenham’s housewarming party, it could prove to be the difference between Mauricio Pochettino’s men playing in either the Champions League or Europa League next season.
Of course, it is not just the building of a stadium that will aid the club, they still need to go out and get the necessary results and although their recent form suggests that won’t be easy, the international break gives this group of players a chance to regroup and refresh themselves.
In effect, Tottenham’s season is one that consists of eight Premier League fixtures and however many exploits into Europe they have between now and the Champions League final on Saturday, June 1st.
The fact that they have been drawn against favourites Manchester City is far from ideal but there is always a glimmer of hope when it comes to tournament football and anything can happen over the course of two legs.
Not to mention that the first leg will be played in Tottenham’s new surroundings, something that play massively in their hands and of course, with City having so many fixtures in April, they are in danger of tripping over themselves.
Add the fact that if Tottenham are to win the Champions League then they are eventually going to have to beat on the of the biggest teams in which to do so, therefore the Quarter-finals is a good a time to start as any.
There is a lot riding on this stadium move and although the club may need time to settle, they simply cannot afford to either. Wins from the off are the hope and expectation, if they can use the move to their advantage and kick on, it will end up being a decent campaign after all.
