    Tottenham Reach A Crossroads

There is no doubting the disappointment that Tottenham would have faced after their Champions League exit at the Round of 16 stage. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were outwitted by Juventus as the Italian giants secured their entry into the Quarter-finals.

As bitter a pill that the 2-1 defeat at Wembley would have been to swallow, they have at least bounced back in the best possible way. Firstly, there was a comprehensive win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in their final Premier League outing before the international break.

In addition to that there was also a comfortable F.A. Cup win over Swansea, one that sees them move into the Semi-finals and an April date with Manchester United in a bid to be one of the two teams that will contest the final on May 19th.

And after their exit in Europe, this competition takes on not only extra importance this season in their bid to deliver a first trophy since 2008 but also for the club’s immediate future as they have reached a crossroad in terms of just where the club could end up.

The North London outfit are expected to move into their new stadium for the start of the 2018/19 campaign and the hope is that this will be the final piece in the jigsaw in their bid to finally deliver the big prizes such as the Premier League and the Champions League.

But you get the feeling that this is a club that needs to get used to winning silverware, not only because that will then begin to breed a winning mentality at the club but also for the fact that it will play a massive role in convincing players to stay with the club.

As successful as the club have been over the past few years, it can only be measured in relative terms. No-one can argue that they haven’t played very impressive football as of late and it has won them many plaudits, but they have failed to turn that spectacle into accolades.

The question now is whether Tottenham can match the ambition of their superstar players, the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli will have a burning ambition to win a trophy whether that be here or elsewhere.

It simply won’t be enough just for Kane to win a Golden Boot for his goal scoring exploits or Alli to win the respect of his peers by picking up a PFA Footballer of the Year award they want the big prizes that their talents truly deserve.

Add to the mix the fact that should these two have an impressive showing in the FIFA World Cup this Summer and the lure of a big money move abroad will no doubt be even stronger however Tottenham can just as easily convince these two to stay put.

The way they can do that is by winning the FA Cup in May and showing everyone that this club is really going places and it could well be the first in a long line of successes. The richest prizes are nearly in reach but if they are not careful they could end up being even further away.
