    Chelsea stormed to the Premier League title in 2016-17. Antonio Conte's men won the championship by tallying 93 points. This term hasn't been as good and Chelsea are fighting just to secure a top four finish. For everything Chelsea and manager Conte did great a year ago, this season has been the complete opposite. Is a managerial change at Chelsea needed for the team to return to the top of the league?

    There is no question that Chelsea executives are looking at alternatives to Conte. The club has been linked with new managers in recent days, including former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique. It looks likely that the Blues won't make a move until the offseason unless something dramatic occurs in the coming weeks. The team's performance in the Champions League last-16 could dictate exactly what happens. The club have an unenviable three-match run upcoming in league and cup matches.

    It seems, Conte has got things wrong this term. His relationships with players and man management has been poor. Conte basically ran off last season's leading scorer Diego Costa and then allowed midfielder Nemanja Matic to join rivals Manchester United. Both player's replacements have been overall poor this term.

    Alvaro Morata looked like a great addition. The Spaniard quickly scored 10 goals in the Premier League. However, Morata's form has been blighted by injury and personal issues. He has had a plenty of problems adapting to life in London. Matic's replacement, Tiemoue Bakayoko, has put in one bad performance after another. The Frenchman was signed from Monaco in the summer, and his sale was a brilliant piece of business by the Ligue 1 team as Chelsea and Conte overvalued the players abilities.

    Conte did sign Olivier Giroud in January. The Frenchman's addition was a great piece of business. Giroud is incredibly underrated and continually scores goals for his teams. Even with Giroud's signing, Chelsea have a battle on their hands to make the top four.

    The team is just one point ahead of fifth place Tottenham. Chelsea's players as a whole aren't as good right now as Tottenham's squad. It will be a tight fight to the finish for a Champions League place.

    Chelsea will take on Manchester United and Manchester City in back-to-back Premier League matches. The team will also play Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 in between. The Blues must still play Tottenham and Liverpool as well.

    There isn't much that has gone right for Conte at Chelsea this term. The Blues will most likely change coaches in the summer with the Italian leaving the West London hotseat for pastures new. For Chelsea, it seems all the problems are down to the man in the dugout this season.
