Watford’s season so far. Marco Silva’s approach

Watford’s season so far. Marco Silva’s approach

Watford this season may not be a Leicester of 2015-2016 season but they are absolutely doing a good job so far, in the present Premier League campaign.

They looked a bright side when they gained promotion in the 2015-2016 season ending the campaign in 13th position and they also started the 2016-2017 season pretty well and they looked set for a top-half finish before collapsing along the way and ended up in the 17th Position, a spot above the relegation zone, a position which led to the departure of Walter Mazzarri.

But ever since the appointment of Marco Silva, things look promising again, Marco Silva’s achievements as a manager are very much commendable, he took Estoril (a Portuguese club) from the second tier and the brink of bankruptcy all the way into the Europa League, he also won the Portuguese cup with Sporting CP, the Greek league with Olympiakos, Impressive record.

A Watford that looked so clueless especially towards the end of last season now looked organized, Silva has got everyone behind the team again.

Watford’s major weakness from last season is their lack of concentration for a full 90+ minutes, they often lose focus in the middle of the game, and anyone who does that in the Premier League gets punished.

Marco Silva’s Watford made some signings in the summer some of which are seen as key signings. Kiko Femenia, a former Barcelona player bought from Leganes has been impressive and he has participated in every game Watford has played so far in the league.

Tom Cleverly was loaned from Everton last season but was signed this summer, Cleverly is known for his aggressive style and his good technique in the midfield and that has absolutely helped Watford this season.

Nathaniel Chalobah, was also loaned from Chelsea, Chalobah had some impressive performance in Chelsea’s pre-season and was tipped by Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard to be the future of Chelsea midfield, he’s had a decent performance for Watford before getting injured. Last but not least is Richarlison, who is now certainly among the transfer wish list of some top European clubs.

  • Watford are presently on 8th Position with 21 points and considering that they had 40 points in the whole of last season, they may have a good season after all.

  • With 21 points, they are just 3 points below 7th Placed Tottenham.

  • Watford’s next five games are against Tottenham, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield and Brighton.

  • Troy Deeney (Watford captain) is the key player for Watford especially because of his experience, but the most impressive have been Docoure and Richarlison, which are the club’s top scorers with 5 goals each in 14 games.

Their obvious strength is their aggressive approach and if they could keep it for 90+ minutes, any team would find it hard against them.

Watford may not be a Man City and they may not have a Salah, but they can Halt a Man City and render a Salah ineffective when it’s their day.
