    Pressure on Leicester to Deliver

The biggest managerial sacking of the season took place this week, as Leicester City parted ways with Claudio Ranieri.  The club have been struggling in the Premier League and based on their position in the table alone, the move is not surprising.  However, considering what the Italian achieved last season in winning the Premier League title, surely he deserved the opportunity to try and keep the team in the Premier League and possibly make the quarter-final of the Champions League?

Much has been said about the way the players have treated a man which led them to the ultimate glory last season and it now falls upon their shoulders to steer the club away from the relegation zone.  If the players or backroom staff have gone behind the manager’s back in any way, they are now under extreme pressure to deliver the goods on the pitch, starting with Monday night’s match at home to Liverpool.

The second half performance in Sevilla was much improved on many of Leicester’s performances this season and despite everything that has been happening at the club, this must be a positive.  However, trends show Leicester have lost their last five Premier League games and failed to score a single goal in their last six, which is very disappointing.  Furthermore, Leicester have won only four of their previous twenty-four matches in all competitions and the fans will be hoping that the removal of Ranieri will see results improve quickly.

With so much focus on what has been happening at the King Power Stadium, much of the attention will be off Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool players, who have struggled in 2017.  The win at home to Tottenham Hotspur last time out could prove to be the turning point for Liverpool but they have had a long gap between now and their last Premier League fixture, meaning some of the momentum from that game could have been lost.  A look back over longer term trends, show Liverpool have lost only three of their last twenty matches in the Premier League, which is a good record.

The one glimmer of hope for Leicester in all the uproar of this week, is the fact they are undefeated in twenty-eight of their last thirty-three home matches and the Foxes will be hoping their home form can steer them away from the bottom three, starting with a win in this game.  Liverpool’s recent away form has seen them win three of their nine matches in all competitions, with defeats coming at Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull.  This will give Leicester fans confidence their team can claim a vital 3 points in their bid to avoid the drop, despite having won the league last season.

It remains to be seen just how the Leicester players are going to react to the sacking of their manager.  You would imagine they would be up for this game and determined to do anything to win this match and prove the decision to be the correct one.  However, a gung-ho approach against Liverpool could lead to damaging consequences and you must back Liverpool to take maximum points from this game.
