West Brom thriving under Tony Pulis

West Brom thriving under Tony Pulis

West Brom boss Tony Pulis has been heavily criticised during his football career. However, he has been relatively successful at every Premier League club he has managed.

The Welshman is at it again at the Hawthorns. The Baggies are currently eighth in the Premier League table having beaten Bournemouth 2-1 at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

The club from the Midlands have been spent the last decade yo-yoing between the Premier League and the Championship. The Baggies had never quite established themselves in the top-flight until the last few years.

However, this season Pulis’ side are now comfortably in midtable and are even outsiders to secure a Europa League spot, if seventh position is enough for a Europa League position for next season. The Baggies are now four points behind seventh-place Everton, although the Toffees are in red hot form.

Pulis’ teams have often been criticised for their style of play, but the Baggies are currently mixing their style up. They do not just play the direct style of football that is so often associated with their boss, though.

The Baggies lofty position owes a lot to a five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League. They have also made the Hawthorns a fortress of late in the top-flight, winning seven of their last eight outings in the Premier League.

West Brom are regarded as a difficult team to play against and not just because they offer a physical presence. Pulis’ side now contains quality players, as well as offering the physical presence of Pulis’ previous teams.

The Baggies welcome struggling Crystal Palace to the Hawthorns next weekend with another chance to cement their place in the top ten of the Premier League table.

They will head into that clash with the Eagles as heavy favourites and you would not write them off finishing in the top seven this season, such has been their good form this season.
