Brighton set to go top with Cardiff win

Brighton have a golden opportunity to move to the top of the Championship when they face Cardiff at the Falmer Stadium on Tuesday night.

Chris Hughton’s side are currently just a point behind league leaders Newcastle in the table and have hit form of late, winning five of their last six games in the second tier. Last time out the Seagulls defeated play-off chasing Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the Falmer Stadium.

A win would put the home side 11 points ahead of third-place Huddersfield in the race to secure an automatic promotion spot this season. Brighton’s form has been strong this season, as the Seagulls have suffered just one defeat in their last 20 league outings.

A big factor in Brighton’s good form has been their home record, as Hughton’s side are ten games unbeaten at the Falmer Stadium. That run of form consisted of eight wins and two draws. In fact, the home side have recorded five consecutive home wins in all competitions.

One interesting factor in this clash is that the Seagulls have drawn their last four home games against Cardiff. However, on current form, they have to be considered favourites to win this clash.

Cardiff are currently 16th in the Championship table, having hit form of late winning three consecutive games in the second tier. The Bluebirds have won just one of their last five away games in the Championship, but that one win came in their last game on their travels in the second tier at Bristol City.

The Welsh side's recent good run of form has moved the Bluebirds eight points clear of the relegation zone. Despite their recent good form, Cardiff’s recent good form will face a stiff test at the Falmer Stadium.

With Brighton’s recent good form we can see the Seagulls shading this battle of two of the Championships form sides.
