CosminIftode / Shutterstock.comIt seems that Tottenham’s season has slightly hit the buffers after a bright start. The north London side suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Wembley against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The defeat left Spurs hopes of making the knockout stages hanging by a thread. The one positive for Spurs though is that they are still the only unbeaten team in the English top-flight.
The Bayer defeat was the sixth consecutive game in which Tottenham have failed to record a victory. The recent poor run of form has coincided with an injury to star striker Harry Kane. The England international has returned to training and may feature in the north London derby on Sunday.
However, boss Mauricio Pochettino has stated that the striker looks unlikely to be named in his starting line-up for the clash. Kane returning to the Tottenham’s squad will be a massive boost for the side from north London.
Tottenham have scored just three times in their last six games in all competitions, drawing four times and suffering two defeats in the process. The man charged with filling in for Kane, Dutch striker Vincent Janssen has struggled to make his mark at the club since his summer arrival.
The 22-year-old has yet to find the net from open play for the north London club. The former-AZ Alkmaar player has scored from the penalty spot against both Liverpool and Leicester but has yet to score from open play.
The 22-year-old was prolific in the Dutch top-flight last season and is currently a first choice striker for his national side. However, he has found the move up in class to the Premier League highly difficult.
When Harry Kane picked up his injury, Tottenham players came out and stated the team would continue to win without their talisman. In truth, they were just trying to get the fans to keep the faith, as they knew in reality that without the striker their team looks a lot less dangerous in attack.
