Everything to Note About the Premier League's Final Day
1737
The Premier League enters its final day of the season with still so much yet to be concluded. We’ll run through the possibilities of what could happen.
The Title Race
Simply put, all Manchester City need to do is match the result of Liverpool. There are two ways in which the Reds can win the title, however. Firstly, if Liverpool can win as City draw or lose, they'll win the title on points.
Secondly, if Jurgen Klopp's men draw as City lose, they'll win the title as long as they overturn the +7 better goals difference over the league leaders, but this in itself will require Aston Villa to destroy City at the Etihad by an almighty scoreline. This in itself would be a record, as City have not lost by three or more goals at the Etihad under Pep Guardiola.
It’s incredibly unlikely Villa win at the Etihad, and it’s expected that City rack up a few goals and retain the title in the process.
Relegation
The relegation fight in the Premier League took a dramatic turn in midweek. Everton secured survival with a stunning 3-2 comeback win against Crystal Palace, just as Burnley grabbed a point against Aston Villa which has now put fate back in their hands.
The Clarets are now out of the drop zone by goals difference as they and Leeds are both on 35 points. Burnley face Newcastle United at home, just as Leeds travel to Brentford. The Whites must better Burnley’s result, otherwise they go down, as their goals difference is much worse.
The Fight for Europe
Arsenal have fallen out of the top four in the past week with losses to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. It does still mean they’re guaranteed a return to the Europa League, but the fourth Champions League spot will go to Spurs if they can get just a point.
West Ham United currently occupy the Europa Conference League spot in seventh, but with them only two points behind Manchester United in sixth, should they beat Brighton & Hove Albion just as United lose to Crystal Palace, they will move into the Europa League as Cristiano Ronaldo and co. end up in the Europa Conference League.
Chelsea are still not safe in third either with their loss to Leicester City, and Spurs will be eyeing up that position with the gap at just two points. Nevertheless, the Blues have secured a spot in the Champions League in fourth at least.
