Balotelli needs Nice move to work out
Italian international striker Mario Balotelli moved to French Ligue One club Nice on Wednesday from Liverpool on a free transfer. The fact that the Reds were prepared to let him go without a fee tells you a lot about his year on Merseyside.
Balotelli had only joined Liverpool in 2014 from AC Milan for a fee of around £16million. However, he struggled to adapt to life on Merseyside and was loaned back to Milan last season. Once again he struggled to find his top form and the Rossoneri decided not to sign the striker on a permanent basis.
The striker then returned to Liverpool this summer with his career in limbo. At 26-years-old the controversial and temperamental striker needs this move to work out to revive his flagging career.
When Balotelli was a youngster he seemed to have all the physical attributes to be a world-class player in the future. He has never quite lived up to his potential and one of the main factors seems to be his temperament and attitude.
His mental strength and attitude have been questioned for much of his career. Liverpool was desperate to get the striker off their books, due to his big wages and poor displays in the past.
Signing Balotelli was a gamble by former-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and it just never paid off. Even Rodgers was not sure about the signing at the time.
Nice could have got themselves a bargain, if, that’s a big if Balotelli can get his head straight and rediscover the sort of form which had former bosses saying he could be as good as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.
