Yannick Bolasie is a big gamble for Everton

Yannick Bolasie is a big gamble for Everton

According to Sky Sports, Everton are close to completing a deal that could rise to £30million for Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie. The Eagles have accepted a Toffees bid and the Republic of Congo international is now expected to travel to Merseyside to discuss personal terms and have a medical.

If Everton complete the deal then it will break their club record transfer fee set when Romelu Lukaku joined the Merseysiders from Chelsea for £28million in 2014.

Following a quiet summer so far the last few days has seen Toffees boss Ronald Koeman frantically attempting to sign players, with the mercurial Bolasie being one of those believed to be heading to Merseyside.

The jury is out on the 27-year-old, as Bolasie is the sort of player that can be a match-winner one minute or completely disappear out of a game. On his day he can terrorise defences and is unstoppable at times, with his pace and his power.

However, he has been inconsistent for the Eagles in his three years at the club. In 143 appearances for Palace Bolasie has scored just 13 times, which is not a great record for a player who offers very little defensively.

Everton have had difficulty filling the left-wing spot for a while, so at least he will solve one predicament for the new Toffees boss. However, Everton are taking a massive gamble by signing a player that is so unpredictable.

The Toffees have lacked creativity in pre-season, so maybe a player like Bolasie is what they need to give them an extra spark going forward.
