Leroy Sane arrival gives Guardiola a nice selection headache

On Tuesday, Manchester City completed the £37million signing of Schalke winger Leroy Sane. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Citizens and is regarded as a hot prospect for the future.

The 20-year-old heads to Manchester with a fight on his hands to get into Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up in the new season. With Guardiola is likely to play three attacking midfielders behind lone striker Sergio Aguero.

Belgian playmaker and Spanish international are virtually nailed-on to be in the starting line-up at the beginning of the campaign. That means that Nolito, Samir Nasri, Jesus Navas and Raheem Sterling all competing for one place in the starting eleven.

The youngster’s signing does give Guardiola a very nice selection headache. However, the attacking midfielder positions must have been an area that the Catalan boss felt like he had to strengthen ahead of an expected title challenge next season.

Nasri, Navas and Sterling were all highly inconsistent last season. Sane scored eight goals and six assists last season in the Bundesliga in 33 appearances, although ten of those appearances came from the substitute’s bench.

The Germany international is certainly a player with a lot of potential, pace and dribbling ability. He is a winger who will get fans off their seats at City. The fee seems like a big one for such a young player, but by all accounts Sane could well prove to be a bargain.

Manchester City are still in the market for new arrivals, with a deal for Everton centre-back John Stones still seemingly on the cards. At least the Citizens are well-equipped in the attacking midfield roles for their assault on the Premier League title next season.
