Everton’s receive a boost with star players returning to training

This season has been a disappointing one, to say the least for everybody connected with Everton. The Toffees are currently on a run of just one win in their last 12 matches in the Premier League and sitting 15th place in the table.

There are already calls for head coach Rafa Benitez to lose his job. If they do not pick up a result this weekend against rock bottom Norwich, those calls for the Spaniard’s exit will intensify.

However, the men from Merseyside may just receive a boost in the return to action of three of their star players in the near future.

Centre-back Yerry Mina, along with forwards Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all returned to training after injury.

They are three of the Toffees key players. Colombian international Mina is arguably Everton’s best centre-back when he is fit.

The Toffees look more secure when he plays, but unfortunately, he has struggled to remain injury-free throughout his Everton career.

Most teams would miss their best two attacking players and Everton are no different. With Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison on the pitch, they offer a far bigger attacking threat than without them. Their return to training is a start at least.

Calvert-Lewin did briefly return for the Toffees game against Brighton. However, he looked slightly rusty and missed a penalty kick.

Reportedly, he picked up another niggle after the game and Benitez was reluctant to play him against Hull in the FA Cup third round last weekend.

The return to the squad of the trio can only be good news for the team from Merseyside. With a seemingly decent run of fixtures in the near future, a few wins could well change the whole mood of the club.

Whether those players can help the Toffees out of their current sticky situation only time will tell. However, if they return and the team is still not getting results, then more questions will be asked about the Everton future of head coach Rafa Benitez.
