Newcastle desperately need a new Manager

Newcastle desperately need a new Manager
    11/01/2021 2167

We are 10 matches into the 2021/22 English Premier League season and Newcastle United are yet to pick up a victory.

It is not the first time in their history they have reached this stage of the season without a win, it has happened twice before, the most recent being in 2018/19, under the guidance of Rafa Benitez.

25% of the season has gone and The Magpies find themselves 6 points adrift of safety, with only Norwich City keeping them off the bottom of the table.

Considering Newcastle United are the richest football club in the world following their recent takeover, finishing in the bottom three is simply not an option this season. With Steve Bruce having left the club, Newcastle United need a manager and fast because things are about to get tough in the Premier League.

There has been little movement in the club on the football side of things since the takeover. Bruce has gone and that was always on the cards but other than the appointment of a new under-23s lead player development coach, things have been quiet at St James’ Park.

One glance at the games played by Newcastle United this season shows they have played Aston Villa, Southampton, Leeds United, Watford, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Crystal Palace among their 10 fixtures.

Compare that to the games played in 2018/19, when Newcastle United last failed to win any of their first 10 league matches and there is a stark difference. Back then, Newcastle United had played Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Leicester City, and Manchester United.

There are 10 matches left until the transfer window opens and that is when the new owners will look to strengthen the team in the hope it will be enough to move out of the relegation zone.

However, there are some tough fixtures ahead of the transfer window, with matches against Arsenal, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United. On current form even picking up a point from those games is going to be difficult and that could leave Newcastle United in big trouble.

There is one fixture remaining in the Premier League before the international break and it is away to Brighton, who have been doing well this season.

The break will give the board time to appoint a new manager and there have been plenty of names linked, including Roberto Martinez, Paulo Fonseca, Unai Emery, Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe, and Frank Lampard.

Newcastle United need to get someone in fast because if they are left in the relegation zone come the transfer window, attracting quality players is going to be a challenge.

Who is going to want to join a club facing a relegation battle if there are other options on the table? There are a big few weeks ahead for Newcastle United and they must appoint a new manager during the international break.
