Remi Garde was never going to save Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s season has just gone from bad to worse, after French boss Remi Garde left the club by mutual consent. The former-Lyon boss won just twice in his four months at the club.

Garde was considered a highly-rated boss in France, following his time with Lyon in Ligue one. He did a decent job on a shoestring budget. However, Villa was in terrible shape when Garde arrived in the Midlands that there was no turning the situation around.

He had no experience in the Premier League, or at fighting relegation battles and Villa are going down without much of a fight. Villa fans have pretty much accepted the fact that their team will be playing their football in the Championship next season.

Owner Randy Lerner seems to have abandoned the Midlands club and in recent transfer windows all the Villans best players have been sold off. The money has been used to buy sub-standard players, mostly of the French persuasion and none of the signings have really worked out.

Lerner looks unlikely to leave the club any time soon, despite losing interest in his investment. No doubt relegation will have reduced the value of the club, but the US businessman has obviously not considered that when the club sold off all their best players.

It will be a long way back to the Premier League for the Villans and a clear-out of the current players is needed to make the team more competitive for the vigour’s of life in the Championship.
