Jamie Vardy has contributed more EPL goals than Aston Villa

The international break lets us reflect on a truly extraordinary campaign in the Premier League. Surprise package Leicester look to be holding their nerve at the top of the English top-flight and one of the keys to the Foxes good form has been the form of England striker Jamie Vardy

Vardy is in the England squad that is facing a tough away friendly in Germany later today and is likely to start the game on the bench.

However, his form is the Premier League really does merit some credit. Vardy’s 19 goals and eight assists this season in the top-flight mean that he has contributed to more goals than other player in the top-flight.

In fact, single-handedly he has contributed to more goals than the whole of the Aston Villa team combined and only two less than Newcastle’s collective output this season. Granted Villa have endured a nightmare season, but it’s still an impressive tally for a player who was a struggling winger last season.

Vardy’s energy and sheer determination has summed-up Leicester’s challenge for the Premier League title this season. The former-Halifax striker is now competing with Tottenham’s Harry Kane for both the golden boot and a starting place for England at Euro 2016.

The pair were once teammates at the King Power Stadium, when Kane spent a short loan spell in the Midlands. Vardy will be highly unlucky if he does not either the Three Lions friendly against Germany or the home game on Tuesday, as he has been simply extraordinary this season.
