Inter’s 100% record in Serie A came to an end as Juventus won an intense derby d’Italia at San Siro.
Maurizio Sarri’s men have moved to the top of the table – 1 point clear of Inter – for the first time this season.
Paulo Dybala gave the visitors the lead after just 4 minutes when he latched onto a long pass from Miralem Pjanic and fired home past Samir Handanovic.
Cristiano almost doubled Juve’s lead but his powerful shot from just outside the 18-yard box smashed against the crossbar.
Inter were awarded a penalty when Matthijs de Ligt handled the ball in the area. Lautaro Martinez brought his side level from the spot on 18 minutes.
Juventus thought they’d took the lead again just before half-time, but Ronaldo’s goal was ruled out by VAR following an offside in the build-up.
Both teams had chances in the second half. Inter had a penalty shout turned down before also hitting the post.
However, the visitors took the lead again with just 10 minutes remaining to end a run of 6 straight league wins for Inter.
Substitute Gonzalo Higuain scored the winning goal for Juventus as he netted a cool finish from close range.
The possession was very evenly matched. However, Juventus created more chances and were ultimately more clinical with their opportunities.
There were also over 30 fouls made in what was the most fiercely competitive derby d’Italia in a long time.
Man of the Match: Paulo Dybala (Juventus)
The Argentine was sublime from start to finish. Not only did he open the scoring, but he continued to create chances for himself and his teammates.
Despite being marginally offside for Ronaldo’s disallowed goal, his overall play was outstanding and he has now surely cemented his place in Sarri’s starting line-up.
Dybala and Ronaldo seem to have developed a fantastic partnership and it’s clear that the pair have a great understanding of each other’s game.
