Nottingham Forest – Season Preview 2019/20

Nottingham Forest – Season Preview 2019/20
2017

The two-time European Cup winners have now been missing from top-flight action for twenty years.

Constant ownership and managerial changes have seen the club struggle to gain any sort of momentum in recent times.

With another new manager and a fresh set of players, will this finally be the year that Forest make a return to the big time?

Last season

Nottingham Forest finished 9th in the Championship last season following another year of instability at the City Ground.

The team was extremely inconsistent and after flirting with the play-off positions midway through the campaign, Forest failed to trouble the top six when it really mattered.

Aitor Karanka left the club in January after a year in charge and was replaced by club legend, Martin O’Niell.

O’Niell was brought in to try and push the team to promotion but ultimately failed and was dismissed at the end of the campaign.

Next season

Constant unrest behind the scenes has led to Forest’s performances on the pitch suffering in recent years.

Sabri Lamouchi – Forest's twelth manager since June 2011 – is the next man chosen by the owners to try and lift the Tricky Trees out of the second-tier.

The former France international has overseen the annual upheaval at the club, with a number of players coming in from Portugal and many players leaving.

Forest fans will be very much used to such off-season antics and will hoping that this time it brings the club some good fortune.

It’s difficult to predict how things will turn out for Forest this season.

The change of manager and the shake-up of the squad could benefit the team but it could also see Forest endure another inconsistent season in the Championship.
