When talking about the greatest players of all time to play for Tottenham Hotspur, Son Heung-Min must be in the conversation.

He is the only player currently at the club who will be go down in history as being one of the Spurs greats.

The South Korean forward is ninth in the all-time appearances list and fifth in the all-time goal scorers chart for Spurs, having netted 172 goals for the club at the time of writing.

Only Harry Kane has scored more goals than Son for Spurs in European competitions. Son is only 2 goals behind Martin Chivers, so there is a good chance he will move into fourth place. However, how soon that will happen will depend on Son’s form and it is fair to say the forward has been struggling this season.

The stats show Spurs have played 23 games since the beginning of December and have lost 11 times. It would have been unthinkable last season to see Son being substituted when Spurs needed a goal to get something from a match but that has happened against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Arsenal.

These are all teams Spurs want to be competing with at the top of the table and yet the manager has decided Son is not the man to get the goals required to take something from those games.

Son was on the bench for the recent Premier League game against Manchester City, which was a big fixture. Perhaps the intensity of the schedule has caught up with the 32 year old and he can no longer sustain the pressing required in Ange Postecoglou's system.

If we look at the statistics, Son made an average of 24.5 sprints per Premier League game last season, which is significantly more than the average of 19 sprints per game across the three years prior to Postecoglou's arrival.

Having played in so many matches for Spurs last season, it placed a big demand on the shoulders of Son and perhaps the efforts of last season have caught up with the South Korean.

If we look at Son’s recent form across all competitions, he has registered only 3 goals and 4 assists in his last 17 appearances for Spurs. The fact Son has played 90 minutes in only 5 of those 17 games is a factor. We are used to seeing Son playing football with a smile on his face but that has disappeared for the time being and could be it be time for the South Korean to move on?

Kane has left Spurs for Bayern Munich and it is likely he is going to win the first trophy of his career. Son has won nothing as a Spurs player and they still have the Europa League as a target this season but if Spurs fail to win that trophy, will Son be tempted by a move to a club with a recent history of winning?

Who knows, if Mohamed Salah does leave Liverpool, could Son make the switch to Anfield? It may be a short term deal, two years at most, but it could be something that would work out nicely for both player and club.
