Ipswich Preparing for Premier League Return – Who’s Joined This Summer?
    07/25/2024 1406

Following 22 seasons away from the Premier League, Ipswich Town are currently preparing to make their top-flight return.

Under the guidance of highly-rated manager Keiran McKenna, the Tractor Boys secured back-to-back promotions in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

After picking up 98 points in League One, Ipswich tallied 96 points in the Championship last term – finishing a solitary point behind champions Leicester City.

Many newly-promoted clubs are reluctant to spend big in the summer transfer window, with fears of immediate relegation making owners overly cautious.

However, Ipswich have already spent a lot since gaining promotion, bolstering their squad ahead of what will be a hugely challenging campaign.

Let’s take a look at which players have joined the East Anglia outfit.

    Omari Hutchinson

After enjoying an eye-catching loan spell at Portman Road last season, Omari Hutchinson has joined the Tractor Boys on a permanent deal from Chelsea.

The 20-year-old winger bagged 10 goals and six assists in 44 Championship games last term, playing a key role in the team’s promotion.

Ipswich paid £20 million to secure the services of Hutchinson, so the young Jamaica international will surely be eager to live up to his price tag.

    Jacob Greaves

Jacob Greaves is widely regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in England, having starred for Hull City over the past few years.

Despite narrowly missing out on the play-offs with the Tigers last term, Greaves was named in the Championship Team of the Season for his efforts.

At just 23, Greaves already has over 200 senior appearances under his belt. Is he ready to make the step up to the Premier League? Time will tell.

    Liam Delap

Ipswich have enhanced their attacking options with the signing of Liam Delap, who joins from Manchester City.

Delap played alongside Greaves at Hull last season, scoring eight goals in 31 league appearances while on loan from the Premier League champions.

Following loan spells at Stoke City and Preston North End in 2022-23, the 21-year-old striker will be looking to cement a starting berth in McKenna’s side.

    Arijanet Muric

After helping Burnley win the Championship title in 2022-23, Arijanet Muric found himself on the bench for much of the previous campaign.

With James Trafford taking over between the sticks at Turf Moor, Muric will be hoping to compete for the number-one shirt at Portman Road.

    Ben Johnson (Free)

Ben Johnson joined West Ham United’s academy back in 2007 before breaking into the first team in 2019, but his new chapter begins at Ipswich this year.

The 24-year-old defender has joined on a free transfer and will give McKenna an extra option in the backline, particularly at full-back.
