There will be many top clubs around Europe looking for a new striker to add to their ranks for the 2024/25 season.

Finding a consistent goal scorer is one of the keys to success but it is not always easy to find the right player at the best price. Could this summer be the time for a big team to make a bid for Jonathan David?

David currently plays for Lille in France and has 19 Ligue 1 goals to his name this season with just one match remaining in the campaign.

The Canadian international also has 4 assists, meaning a total of 23 goal involvements in 33 games.

Kylian Mbappe will finish the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season as the top goal scorer but it has been another extremely consistent campaign from David.

Only 2 of David’s 19 goals have come from the penalty spot and he has scored the first goal 14 times this season, which means David is regularly giving his team the advantage in matches.

Last season, David finished with 24 goals in Ligue 1 and he netted 15 times in the 2021/22 Ligue 1 season.

His debut season for Lille in Ligue 1 ended with 13 goals, which was a good return having made the step up from the Belgian Pro League.

David has also scored regularly when playing for Canada and was one of their key players in their qualification for the 2022 World Cup.

At the time of writing, David has 26 goals in 46 appearances for Canada, which is a better average than 1 goal every 2 games.

David is 24 years old and is entering his prime as a striker. He has plenty of pace, which is something many coaches are now looking for in their forward players.

David is also a fantastic finisher and knows how to score goals. His statistics are evidence of how good he is in-front of goal and it will be interesting to see if any teams make a bid for David’s services in the summer transfer window.

Not only can David play as a central striker but he also has the ability to play as a second striker thanks to his close control and passing accuracy.

David has an over 82% passing accuracy rating in Ligue 1 this season and that compares well with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Bruno Fernandes, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez, Vinicius Junior, and Harry Kane.

So, David can bring a lot more than goals to a team and with his contract due to expire in 2025, now could be the time for a team to make a move for the Canadian.

Is David on the radar of big clubs around Europe or will Lille be able to keep hold of their striker and extend his contract?
