Best Volleys in Premier League History

Best Volleys in Premier League History
956

Following on from Bruno Fernandes’ stunning volley against Burnley to earn Manchester United their second win of the season, we’ve rounded up the best volleys in Premier League history.

Robin van Persie (2013)

After joining United from Arsenal, van Persie would steer the Red Devils to title number 20 and cap his 26-goal season off with an unbelievable volley at home to Aston Villa.

His volley from a Wayne Rooney pass won him the Goal of the Season award, and also won United the league title that day alongside his hat-trick.

Wayne Rooney (2005)

Wayne Rooney is remembered for a lot of things, and his thumping volley against Newcastle United was one of them.

At just 19 years old, Rooney was the most talked about name in the Premier League, and he thrust himself into the headlines with a magical volley from distance at Old Trafford in 2005.

What all but sums Rooney up is how he was arguing with the referee just moments before smashing the ball into the back of the net.

Andros Townsend (2018)

Arguably the most underrated and underappreciated goal in Premier League history falls on the shoulders of Andros Townsend.

When discussing Premier League volleys, most steer towards the likes of Rooney and van Persie. However, Townsend scored perhaps one better than them all against Manchester City in 2018.

Crystal Palace stunned City that day at the Etihad with a rare win over there, but it was the Englishman who stole the headlines with a stunning first-time volley from 30 yards out.

It truly is one of the best-ever Premier League goals.

Jamie Vardy (2018)

A finish that won Jamie Vardy the Goal of the Season at a variety of awards.

The Premier League winner was already regarded as one of the best to ever do it in the league at the time of this finish, but by plucking the ball out of the air with his weak foot away to West Bromwich Albion, Vardy scored arguably his best-ever goal.

Not only was it with his weaker foot, but Vardy also watched the ball travel all the way from his own half and followed the pass right into the West Brom box. A miraculous finish.

Tony Yeboah (1995)

One of the first to ever do it in the volleying regard; Tony Yeboah’s finish against Liverpool is one of the greatest-ever Premier League goals.

At Leeds United, Yeboah controlled the ball and smashed in a volley from outside the box which crashed in off the bar.
