Liverpool – Premier League Preview (2023-24)

Liverpool have experienced a lot of changes this summer, with club legends departing and new stars arriving.

With Jurgen Klopp heading into his eighth full season at Anfield, the Reds are determined to bounce back from a disappointing 2022-23 campaign.

Manager: Jurgen Klopp

Stadium: Anfield

Last Season: 5th

Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and James Milner have all headed for the Anfield exit this summer, marking the end of an era.

Can big-money signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai fill the void?

What Happened Last Season?

To say that Liverpool experienced a below-par 2022-23 campaign would be an understatement.

Following four successive top-three finishes – including a title triumph in 2019-20 – the Reds slipped to fifth last term.

After recording just four wins in 11 games between January and April, Liverpool looked set to miss out on a European place altogether.

However, Klopp’s men finished the season on a high, posting an unbeaten streak of seven wins and four draws.

The Merseysiders also suffered a humiliating 6-2 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16, so they will be eager to bounce back and make amends in 2023-24.

Key Players

Despite Liverpool’s struggles last term, Mohamed Salah remained consistent throughout the 2022-23 campaign, chalking up 30 goals and 16 assists in 51 matches across all competitions.

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez showed glimpses of promise last season, while Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota starred when available.

Each of those attacking players will be desperate to nail down a spot in Klopp’s starting XI in 2023-24.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are also expected to make an impact after signing for the club earlier this summer.

Mac Allister bagged 12 goals for Brighton & Hove Albion last season, while Szoboszlai racked up 10 goals and 13 assists for RB Leipzig.

What Can Liverpool Achieve in 2023-24?

Liverpool fans expect a Premier League title challenge every season.

However, the Anfield faithful may have to be patient as Klopp gets to grips with his new-look squad.

A top-four finish is a must for the Reds in 2023-24, but Klopp and his players will be confident of going one better.

Chasing down Manchester City and Arsenal could be tricky, but Liverpool will have the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United in their sights.
