The 2022 World Cup dished up more than its fair share of thrills and spills. The winter tournament in Qatar produced tons of memorable moments, from group-stage giant killings to the craziest final in history.

Throughout the tournament, we were able to correctly predict the outcome of multiple matches. However, there were also plenty of shock results that saw underdogs upset the odds against high-profile teams.

Here are some of our standout predictions from the 2022 World Cup, in addition to some of the biggest surprises.

Our Best 2022 World Cup Predictions

From the early group games to the memorable final between Argentina and France, Forebet managed to predict the correct result of numerous clashes.

Let’s kick things off with our best 2022 World Cup predictions. We were able to predict the correct score after 90 minutes of all the following games.

• Argentina vs. France (2-2)

It looked as though Argentina would lift the World Cup trophy without any real problems, but two late goals from Kylian Mbappe forced the game into extra time. As predicted, the final finished 2-2 after 90 minutes – before Argentina won on penalties.

• France vs. Poland (3-1)

France made light work of Poland in the last 16. Olivier Giroud opened the scoring before Mbappe bagged a brace. Deep into second-half injury time, Robert Lewandowski pulled a goal back for the Poles.

• Spain vs. Germany (1-1)

Goals from Alvaro Morata and Niclas Fullkrug ensured that Spain and Germany played out a 1-1 draw in Group E. Although La Roja enjoyed 65% possession, the Germans racked up 11 shots.

• Brazil vs. Serbia (2-0)

As expected, Brazil kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Serbia. Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison scored both goals, including an outrageous overhead kick – one of the goals of the tournament.

• Japan vs. Croatia (1-1)

The last-16 clash between Japan and Croatia ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Ivan Perisic canceling out Daizen Maeda’s opener. The Croatians then went on to win 3-1 on penalties.

Biggest Surprises of the 2022 World Cup

It’s now time to look back at some of the tournament’s biggest shock results. Saudia Arabia, Japan, Tunisia and Morocco all feature in this section.

• Argentina vs. Saudia Arabia (1-2)

Everyone expected Argentina to make light work of Saudi Arabia, but the Saudis stunned the world. Despite seeing just 30% of the ball, the Green Falcons claimed a shock 2-1 win against the eventual champions.

• Germany vs. Japan (1-2)

Germany racked up 74% possession and 26 shots against Japan. However, late goals from Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano saw the Asian nation come from behind to beat the Germans 2-1.

• Tunisia vs. France (1-0)

Granted, France manager Didier Deschamps played a second-string team against Tunisia. But Les Blues were still heavily favoured to win. As it turned out, the Tunisians recorded a memorable 1-0 victory.

• Japan vs. Spain (2-1)

A week after beating Germany, Japan repeated their heroics against Spain. This time, they saw just 17% of the ball – with Doan and Ao Tanaka scoring in the second half to cancel out Morata’s early opener.

• Morocco vs. Portugal (1-0)

We couldn’t talk about the biggest surprises of the 2022 World Cup without mentioning Morocco. After beating Belgium, Canada and Spain, the African history makers dispatched Portugal in the quarter-finals.
