France head into the 2022 World Cup as defending champions, having triumphed in Russia four years ago. Denmark, Australia and Tunisia join Les Blues in Group D. We take a look at all four sides ahead of the tournament in Qatar.
It’s fair to say that France will need to up their game if they’re serious about defending their World Cup crown. The reigning champs have managed to win just three of their eight games in 2022, suffering three defeats along the way.
That said, Les Blues boast one of the strongest squads in world football. With superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema, Aurelien Tchouameni heading to Qatar, Didier Deschamps’ side have the potential to go all the way once again.

Funnily enough, Denmark have already beaten France twice this year. After claiming a 2-1 victory in Paris, they secured a 2-0 win in Copenhagen – finishing seven points clear of the French in Nations League Group A1.
The Danes enjoyed a hugely impressive World Cup qualification campaign, winning nine of their ten games while scoring 30 goals and conceding just three. Christian Eriksen and co. will be confident of achieving something special in Qatar.
Australia have qualified for each of the past four World Cups. However, their best performance came back in 2006 when they reach the last 16. Since then, they have suffered three consecutive group-stage exits.
Unlike previous tournaments, the Socceroos have no Premier League representatives in their squad. Teenage sensation Garang Kuol will team up with Newcastle after the World Cup, so he will be eager to impress in Qatar.
Tunisia enjoyed a seven-game unbeaten streak between March and September before suffering a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Brazil. The Eagles of Carthage have another pre-tournament friendly against Iran to prepare for the main event.
The Africans have failed to reach the knockout phase in five attempts, having qualified for four of the previous six World Cups. Can they finally progress from the group stage this time around? We’ll have to wait and see.
Forebet predicts that France will win Group D without any problems, with the defending champions likely to progress with a 100% record. Denmark are expected to join Les Blues in the last 16, meaning Tunisia and Australia will miss out.
