Forebet’s 2022 World Cup Prediction – Based on Our Mathematical Algorithm

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner. On November 20, host nation Qatar will face Ecuador in the tournament’s curtain-raiser, with the final scheduled for December 18.

Every four years, famous football experts reveal their World Cup favourites. Accordingly, football fans around the globe make their predictions and attempt to foresee how the tournament will pan out. But that is never an easy task.

Here at Forebet, we believe that “football is mathematics”. Although it is difficult to pick the winner of the World Cup, it is possible to use numbers, statistics and trends to make an educated prediction.

We have used our mathematical algorithm to predict the outcome of the Qatar World Cup. Based on our statistical model, we forecasted the results of all the group games and plotted the path of the knockout stage before determining the outcome of the final.

So, who will upset the odds in the group stage? Who will make a shock exit during the knockouts? And who will lift the trophy at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium on December 18?

Group Stage

As you can see, our mathematical algorithm dished up plenty of eye-catching outcomes. First up, Senegal topped Group A without losing a match. Meanwhile, the Netherlands edged out Ecuador on goal difference.

Over in Group B, the United States won all three of their games – scoring seven goals while conceding just once. England also progressed from Group B, while Wales finished bottom after conceding 11 goals across three defeats.

Argentina put in the best group-stage performance, posting a 100% record with 12 goals and three clean sheets. Mexico claimed the runners-up spot in Group C, eliminating Poland and Saudia Arabia.

In Group D, defending champions France progressed as group winners with three wins from three. Denmark finished second after picking up two wins and conceding a solitary a goal.

Germany and Spain were always expected to qualify from Group E – and our statistical model backed up that notion. The Germans finished first with two wins and a draw, while the Spaniards finished second with a win and two draws.

Group F proved to be one of the tightest groups. Favorites Belgium advanced as group winners, with Canada beating Croatia to the second qualification spot. Morocco finished bottom after scoring one goal and conceding 11.

Interestingly, Group G was also close. Brazil won the group after securing two wins and a draw, while Serbia edged out Switzerland to finish second. It is worth noting that Serbia collected two wins while conceding just twice.

Group H proved to be the craziest group, as Uruguay finished top with a 100% record. Portugal, Ghana and South Korea all picked up three points, with the Portuguese progressing on goal difference.

With the group stage completed and the last 16 confirmed, let’s find out what happened next.

Round of 16

Senegal picked up where they left off in the group stage by knocking out England in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Argentina beat Denmark to book their place in the quarter-finals.

The United States’ World Cup dream was ended by the Netherlands, who reached the quarter-finals for the seventh time in their history. Elsewhere, reigning champions France dispatched Mexico.

As expected, Germany knocked out Canada in the round of 16. The heavyweight clash between Brazil and Portugal went in favour of the Brazilians, who edged a step closer sealing an unprecedented sixth World Cup title.

The final two last-16 clashes saw Belgium get the better of Spain and Uruguay dispatch Serbia, leaving just eight teams in the competition. It’s time to see how our statistical model forecasted the quarter-finals.

Quarter-Finals

Unfortunately for Senegal, their World Cup journey ended with defeat to Argentina in the quarter-finals. The defending champions were also knocked out at this stage, as the Netherlands overcame France.

Brazil punched their ticket to the semi-finals with a victory over Germany, while Belgium saw off Uruguay to reach the last four. Let’s find out what happened in the semi-finals.

Semi-Finals

The semi-finals dished up a mammoth all-South American showdown, with Argentina facing Brazil. Just like last year’s Copa America final, Argentina got the better of Brazil.

The other semi-final was an all-European clash, as the Netherlands come up against Belgium. The Dutch ended up reaching their fourth World Cup final, but did they manage to lift the trophy for the very first time?

Final

Our mathematical algorithm produced a repeat of the 1978 World Cup final, with the Netherlands facing Argentina. The old foes played out a draw in normal time, meaning extra-time and/or penalties were required to determine the winner.
