    Two of the top teams in German football, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund meet in the Bundesliga on the 11th of November. This fixture is known as the Borussen Derby but what does the word ‘Borussia’ mean?

    We must go back in history to find out. The word Borussia is Latin for Prussia, which was a former European state that encompassed much of Germany, Poland, Russia, and Lithuania. There is debate among the fans of the two teams in terms of which team is the most ‘Borussen’ and perhaps Mönchengladbach can claim that title as they were formed earlier.
