European football is treated to five derbies across four different leagues, as we see another London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal, the Seville derby, the Derby della Capitale, the Derby d'Italia and the Choc des Olympiques.
We’ll run through each one, how things look heading into the game, and a bit of history too.
Chelsea — Arsenal (North West London derby)
The games between Chelsea and Arsenal each Premier League season are always ones that stick out. The two London sides have constantly battled between themselves for supremacy in England’s capital, with both sides winning the Premier League title in the past two decades and putting together some of the most thrilling games in Premier League history.
As of now, the Gunners are stunningly sitting top of the table in England’s top flight, while Chelsea look to bounce back from their first loss under Graham Potter.
Arsenal’s table-topping status right now gives this one an added edge, and they will be in search of win number 81 from 205 meetings. Chelsea have won 66 games, and also boast the largest-ever victory in the fixture after a 6-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge in 2014.
Real Betis — Sevilla (Seville derby)
The Derbi Sevillano, also known as the Great Derby, sees Sevilla and Real Betis meet this weekend for the 138th time, as Sevilla aim to get their 66th win and Bettis just their 41st
Things look very different for both sides this season, as Betis come into this game fourth in the La Liga table and just one season after winning the Copa del Rey for just the third time in their history.
Sevilla, on the other hand, are down in 18th, have crashed out of the Champions League, and are in a genuine relegation fight this campaign unless they turn things around.
Roma - Lazio (Derby della Capitale)
Arguably the most fierce derby in Italy takes centre stage this weekend, as Roma and Lazio meet at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma have moved back ahead of Lazio in the table after a loss for the latter at the Stadio Olimpico, but this is just by one point. 194 matches have been played between these two, with Roma winning 73 compared to Lazio's 55.
Juventus - Inter Milano (Derby d'Italia)
From the Rome derby to the Derby d'Italia, where two of Italy’s most successful teams meet one another. Given how both have spent most of their time in the top flight, these two have now met a stunning 259 times, as Inter have won the past three.
On the other hand, the 2020/21 Serie A winners have just 81 wins compared to Juventus' 114.
Inter are also sixth and Juventus seventh in the league right now, making this one a huge battle.
Olympique de Marseille — Olympique Lyonnais (Choc des Olympiques)
The Choc des Olympiques is the name of the football rivalry between two Lyon and Marseille as they both have "Olympique" in their name.
It’s far from the tense battle that Marseille has with Paris Saint-Germain, but it remains an integral part of the Ligue 1 calendar.
