The Milan derby is always a big occasion and this weekend the two giants of Italian football collide at the San Siro Stadium on Sunday night.

This is a huge game for both teams, not only in terms of getting a victory over rivals but for Champions League qualification.  A win for AC Milan would see them open a gap of 4 points between themselves in third place and Inter Milan in fourth place.

However, a win for Inter Milan would see them move above AC Milan in the table into third place, 2 points clear of the Rossoneri.

Milan come into this match in good form having won seven and drawn three of their last ten games in all competitions.  There have been wins over Genoa, Cagliari, Atalanta, Empoli, Sassuolo and Chievo in Serie A plus Napoli in the Coppa Italia.

You must go back to the 22nd December to find the last time AC Milan lost in the league and trends show they have won each of their last five matches.  AC Milan have won four and drawn one of their last five home Serie A games, keeping a clean sheet in each of the last four.

In fact, AC Milan have been very good defensively and have conceded only 2 goals in their last seven home Serie A matches.

Inter Milan were eliminated from the Europa League in mid-week, going down 1-0 at home against Eintracht Frankfurt.  Having drawn the away leg 0-0 in Germany, it was a very disappointing result for the Nerazzurri and they will not be picking up a trophy this season.

Trend show Inter have won only one of their last five games in all competitions having previously been on a good run which saw them win four in a row during February.  However, a draw with Fiorentina in Serie A was followed by a 2-1 defeat at Cagliari and the only win in the last five has come at home against SPAL in Serie A.

Away form in the league shows Inter Milan have won just two of their last nine Serie A games on the road.  They have scored in seven of those matches but have kept just two clean sheets and their failure to defend well has cost them points.

Looking ahead to the team news and AC Milan continue without Giacomo Bonaventura who has a long term knee problem but Cristian Zapata could return to the squad following injury.  All eyes will be on Krzysztof Piatek up-front.

Inter Milan have a long term injury problem of their own with full-back Sime Vrsaljko out for the rest of the season.  Radja Nainggolan and Miranda are doubts while Mauro Icardi is set to miss out once more.

Given the current form and mood of both teams, everything is pointing towards a home win and it would be huge for AC Milan.  The Rossoneri could keep a clean sheet in this one and do not be surprised to see Piatek get on the scoresheet.
