Must Win Game for Newcastle

There are some big games in the Premier League this weekend, both at the top and bottom of the table.  Time is running out for Huddersfield Town and they make the trip north to take on Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies start the weekend in 16th place but remain just 1 point clear of the relegation zone.  A win here could potentially move them up to 13th place and one step closer to the safety this season.  Huddersfield Town are rooted to the bottom of the league and in truth, they have very little hope of survival.

Newcastle United played a friendly match last weekend as they aimed to keep their players match fit following a break.  Their last competitive game came at Wolverhampton Wanderers on the 11th February and Newcastle United came away with a good point, although they will be disappointed to have conceded a very late equaliser.

Trends show Newcastle have won only two of their last twelve matches in all competitions (inside 90 minutes), with their most recent victory coming in a shock 2-1 win over Manchester City. Their home form shows they have been tough to beat on home soil losing one of their last five having recovered from a poor run.

However, keeping a clean sheet remains a problem for Newcastle United at home and they have recorded just one in their last six games at St James’ Park.

Huddersfield Town are fighting a losing battle at the foot of the table and lost 2-1 at home against Arsenal last time out.  That results means Huddersfield Town have failed to win any of their last fourteen matches in all competitions.

During those fourteen games, Huddersfield Town have managed just a single draw, which came away to Cardiff City in the Premier League on the 12th January.

Trends showHuddersfield have won two of their last thirty-two matches in all competitions, which is a terrible run of form. They have failed to score a single goal in five of their last six matches in all competitions and have picked up 1 point from the last 18 available away from home in the Premier League.

Team news and Newcastle United could see the return of Jonjo Shelvey, Paul Dummett and Ken Darlow from injury.  If all three make it, Rafa Benitez will have a full squad available.

Huddersfield Town will be without the injured duo of Isaac Mbenza and Daniel Williams, with both players unlikely to feature until the end of the month.

Newcastle United are not in great form but are in a much stronger position than their opponents and should win the game.  Huddersfield Town are set for the drop this season and a defeat here will put another nail in the coffin.
