The Premier League action has come thick and fast as of late, no sooner had the midweek round of fixtures taken place then we are once again preparing for a full weekend of English top flight fixtures.

First up we go to Wembley, as Tottenham play the second of three consecutive home Premier League matches and they will be hoping for a similar outcome to the one that we saw on Wednesday evening.

That’s because Mauricio Pochettino’s men got the better of Watford, albeit eventually after a dramatic late turnaround. One that saw Fernando Llorente go some way to redeeming himself in the eyes of the fans, when he headed home the winner three minutes from the end.

Much was made of whether Tottenham’s had the character to grind out a win, especially after losing back to back cup fixtures and it is fair to say that they certainly showed a steely determination on Wednesday night.

And you get the feeling that they are going to need more of the same when they prepare for the visit of a Newcastle side who blew the title race wide open, after they earned a fantastic win on Tuesday night at St James’ Park.

It was the battle of the Spanish managers as Rafael Benitez and Pep Guardiola faced off and after just 25 seconds it looked as if the writing was on the wall for the hosts, Sergio Aguero’s early strike had people asking just how many City would go on and win the game by.

However, after going in front City lacked that usual rhythm that has swept so many sides away in the past and although Newcastle’s game plan was not incredibly pretty in the first half, it was one that was certainly effective.

The longer Newcastle kept the game at just one goal, the more their confidence grew and there was a notable belief that they could then go onto get something out of it. A feeling that only got bigger when Salomon Rondon headed an equaliser.

And with just under a quarter of an hour to go, the Magpies were presented with a huge opportunity to turn the game on its head. One that came in the form of a penalty for Newcastle and although there was a delay before it was taken, Matt Ritchie held his nerve to put his side 2-1 up.

That win would have undoubtedly been a huge confidence booster for Newcastle as they managed to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three, the question now is whether they can build on that result and continue this new found momentum.

Tottenham have notable absentees in attack, but they do at least have Hueng min-Son back in the fold and the South Korean was called upon on Wednesday when he scored the equaliser against Watford at Wembley.

He will be called upon again to produce the goalscoring goods at the weekend, if he does manage to do so then you do get the feeling that Tottenham will just about edge this one and ask questions of the teams lying below them in the race for Champions League places. This one’s a home win.
