Wolves problems in EPL to continue

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Leicester City on Saturday in the Premier League’s early kickoff. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team has slumped recently losing their last two fixtures.

Wolves will be without centre-back Willy Boly who will miss the match after receiving a red card against Manchester City last weekend. Leicester City go into the game in eighth place and playing inconsistent football. The Foxes have lost three of their last six games including last weekend at home to Southampton.

Leicester manager Claude Puel remains on the hot seat. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is being linked with the job as Puel is a dead man walking. While Puel is on the hot seat it cannot be denied his stars are not performing. James Maddison, who continues to be praised by the media, hasn’t scored in six games. He has just one assist in his last 13 matches. Puel may not be getting results, but Leicester’s big names have faded.

Wolves lost 3-0 to Manchester City on Monday and were hardly in the game. They have struggled of late and with a winnable FA Cup fourth round game against Shrewsbury upcoming, it seems their attention is elsewhere.

Leicester have beaten Wolves twice already this season. The first victory came in August with a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium. Their second meeting occurred just over a month later in the EFL Cup. The match ended nil-nil after 90 minutes, but the Foxes went through on penalties.

All prior meetings to this season’s Premier League games took place in the Championship. Wolves were successful on just one occasion. That won win is their only victory over Leicester in their five most recent meetings. Since Wolves got promoted, they have failed to score against Leicester in two games this term. Saturday’s game should be low scoring with just one goal separating the two teams.

Leicester have been good away from home this term collecting 17 points from 33 possible. It is the sixth best away points total in the Premier League. Leicester’s 17 away points are more than half their total so far. Wolves have collected just 14 of 33 points at home and four of their last six games at Molineaux have ended in losses.

Wolves are struggling going into Saturday’s game and with one eye on the FA Cup, they will drop more home points. Leicester have had Wolves’ number this season. The Foxes will continue their solid home play and pick up another win on the road in a low-scoring affair.
