Wolves Need Return to Good Form

Wolves Need Return to Good Form

The Premier League fixtures continue on Wednesday night with matches having an impact on both the top and bottom of the table.  One such game is the meeting between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea at Molineux.

This is a huge game for both teams as we enter a crucial stage of the season.  Wolves find themselves in the bottom half of the table as we enter the fifteenth round of Premier League fixtures and need a win to boost their confidence.

Chelsea will want to try and keep the pressure on the top two teams in the hope they slip-up and to do that the Blues will needs to take maximum points from this game.

Wolves suffered another defeat on the weekend as they went down 2-1 at Cardiff City. Wolves took the lead in the game but could not prevent Cardiff from going on to win the match and it was a deserved victory for the Welsh club.

Trends show that defeat means Wolves have won only one of their last seven games in all competitions and have tasted defeat in five of their last six Premier League matches.  The bubble has burst and Nuno Espirito Santo must turn things around quickly.

Home form has been poor and Wolves have lost their last three games at Molineux against Watford, Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town.  Wolves have conceded 7 goals across those three matches and failed to score themselves in two of them.

Chelsea returned to winning ways on the weekend as they defeated Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. It was not a vintage performance by Chelsea and they took time to get the second goal to seal the win but it was a decent return to winning ways following the defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

Trends show Chelsea have won seventeen of their last twenty-two matches in all competitions but only four of their last nine in the Premier League.  However, away form has been good and Chelsea have won four and drawn one of their six away matches in the league this season.

The Blues have failed to score a goal on only one occasion and have kept three clean sheets in their last four away Premier League games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Wolves are without the injured wing-back Jonny and suspended midfielder Ruben Neves.  Morgan Gibbs-White could come into central midfield and Diogo Jota, Leo Bonatini and Ivan Cavaleiro are all pushing for a place in the starting XI.

Chelsea could hand a place in the team to Ruben Loftus-Cheek following his goal as a substitute at the weekend.  Ross Barkley could miss out due to injury and Maurizio Sarri could freshen things up with the introduction of Emerson, Alvaro Morata and Willian.

Wolves really need to get a win to put their season back on track but this is not an ideal game for that to happen.  Chelsea have been good on the road this season and should pick up their fifth away win of the campaign.
