Watford to win second straight game

Watford host Huddersfield at Vicarage Road on Saturday looking for a second straight win. The Hornets have gained 16 points from 27 possible having surprised many in the early stages of the Premier League season.

Despite a four-match winless run that saw Watford lose three games, they are back to playing their best. Last weekend saw the team defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0. Huddersfield weren’t so lucky last weekend. The Terriers lost their sixth game of the season, 1-0, to Liverpool. Huddersfield are one of two Premier League teams without a win.

Despite their current form, Huddersfield won both Premier League matches against Watford last term. The Terriers claimed a 4-1 win at Vicarage Road before gaining a 1-0 victory at home. Huddersfield are not the team they were last April when these sides last met. They have scored just four goals this season while allowing 18.

Interestingly, Watford do not score a lot of goals either. The Hornets have tallied just 13 strikes while allowing 12. During their four-match winless streak, the team scored just twice.

But against Wolves, Watford broke out thanks to top scorer Roberto Pereyra. The Argentine dictates Watford’s play. How Pereyra goes, Watford goes. His strike against Wolves was his first since August 26 – a span of five games without a goal.

Manager Javi Gracia goes into Watford’s home fixture feeling confident. However, he will be without one key first-team player. Right-back Daryl Janmaat will miss the match due to a knee injury. Janmaat is expected back in November.

Huddersfield’s terrible start to the season shouldn’t affect manager David Wagner’s job. The Terriers’ problems are not the manager. Rather, they are due to the team’s lack of quality. While many of the players were with the team last season, Huddersfield finished only four points above the relegation zone.

They are a Championship quality team playing in the top-flight. Wagner has overachieved with Huddersfield. Their winless streak dates back to last term and Huddersfield are now 13 games without a win in the Premier League.

Will Huddersfield’s woes end? Not at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Watford will ease to victory with a home win. Watford have seen over 2.5 goals in their last five home matches against Huddersfield in all competitions. The two sides may find the back of the net several times. These clubs love to score against each other as 24 goals have been tallied in their last six meetings in all competitions.
