There is nothing like a European night at Signal Iduna Park and the home fans will be looking forward to hearing the Champions League theme for the first time this season as Borussia Dortmund host Monaco on Wednesday.

This is the second round of matches in Group A and there already appears to be two clear favourites to qualify from the group.  Both Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have won their opening games and the German club will be keen to make it maximum points from two matches when they play Monaco.

Borussia Dortmund have made an excellent start to the 2018/19 season and sit top of the Bundesliga after six games. They are 1 point clear of defending champions Bayern Munich and there is a real feeling they could challenge for the title this season.

However, the yellow wall will also want to see their team go far in the Champions League and that means winning this match.  Form in the Champions league has not been good recently and trends show the win over Club Brugge two weeks ago was their first in seven Champions League games.

Keeping clean sheets has been a problem for Borussia Dortmund and both teams have scored in six of their last seven Champions league matches.  That includes each of their last four games at home.

Monaco started their Champions league campaign with a 2-1 defeat at home against Atletico Madrid. Despite having taken the lead after 18 minutes, Monaco could not hold on to the lead and they conceded two goals before half-time to lose the game.

That result compounded what was a poor start to the season for Monaco and things have not improved since the Champions league defeat.  Monaco sit 18th in Ligue 1, with just 6 points to show from their eight games. You must go back to the 18th August to find the last time they won a match and that was at Nantes in Ligue 1.

Trend show Monaco have lost five of their last six Champions league games and have conceded at least two goals in those five defeats.  Monaco have been losing at both half-time and full-time in each of their last three Champions League matches and they are up against it in this game.

Looking ahead to the team news and Borussia Dortmund have doubts over Lukasz Piszczek, Mario Gotze, Sebastian Rode and Jeremy Toljan.  Defender Omar Toprak is injured but would be unlikely to start anyway if fit.

Monaco have doubts over several players including Willem Geubbels, Danijel Subasic, Pietro Pellegri, Rony Lopes and Ronael Pierre Gabriel.

This match has a home win written all over it. Borussia Dortmund are in great form whereas Monaco have been struggling this season.  A home win with over 2.5 goals scored seems a likely outcome to this game.
