On Saturday evening, Peru and Denmark go head-to-head in their first game of Group C of the World Cup, as both teams look to gain a vital victory.

Peru heads into this opening game as underdogs to qualify for the knockout stages. However, the South American team are 15 games unbeaten in international football. A 0-0 draw against Sweden last time out ended a five-game winning run for Ricardo Gareca’s team.

La Blanquirroja has not played at a World Cup finals since 1982. The South American outfit will be determined to put in good displays in Russia after booking their World Cup spot by defeating New Zealand in an inter-continental play-off.

Recent good results have seen the South American country jump up the FIFA world rankings to the lofty heights of 11th place above the likes of opponents Denmark, Italy, England and Uruguay.

Denmark have a patchy history with the World Cup in recent years, as the Scandinavians have failed to qualify for two of the last three final tournaments. The Scandinavians biggest achievement at a World Cup came back in 1998 in France.

Age Hareide’s side made it through to Russia 2018 courtesy of a play-off victory over the Republic of Ireland.

Their results have been relatively solid, as the Danes are on a four-game unbeaten run while keeping four straight clean sheets. The good defensive displays have led to their last four games producing under 2.5 goals. In fact, eight of their last ten international games have produced under 2.5 goals.

These two teams have never met at previous World Cup finals. However, their first ever World Cup meeting could prove to be pivotal in both sides’ chances of making the knockout stages of the competition.

Both sides’ strength lies in their defensive solidity, so it is little surprise that Forebet predicts that this game will end in a low scoring draw.
