This past week for Tottenham has been something of a mixed bag, defeat to Juventus at Wembley saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side crash out of the Champions league at the Round of 16 stage while a win at Bournemouth saw the North London outfit move up to third in the Premier League.

The victory at the Vitality Stadium defused any concerns that the club were going to suffer a European hangover as they earned a 4-1 win over the Cherries. It may well have been three points that they earned but they have come at a hefty price.

That being the sight of Harry Kane limping off in the first half after a collision with Asmir Begovic, although the clash was purely accidental it is one that has caused a whole host of worries for everyone connected to the club.

With the news that the England international is going to be out until April, it is an injury that in fairness could not have come at a worse time. To be honest there is never a good time to have someone as talented as Kane out injured but the ramifications will surely be worse at the business end of the season.

With Tottenham knocked out of Europe, their F.A. Cup fixture with Swansea this weekend takes on even further importance. It is arguably their most important game of the season so far, win and they move on to the Semi-finals but lose and the opportunity to win a first trophy in 10 years will have slipped through their fingers.

It would be terribly unfair if their season was derailed at such a vital stage, especially after such an impressive run of form as of late. Therefore it is now going to require Kane’s supporting cast to step up to the plate and do their bit in the final third.

The goal scoring burden will be undoubtedly heaped on the shoulders of South Korean Hueng min-Son, he showed what he is capable of last weekend when he scored a brace away at Bournemouth and the hope and expectation is that there will be more of the same when he and his teammates travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea.

The injury to Kane, could also give Tottenham’s January signing Lucas Moura the chance to truly endear himself to his new set of fans. The Brazilian has had to make do with a fleeting amount of minutes since his move from PSG but with Son set to move further forward and spearhead the attack then he would slot in comfortably as one of the three attacking midfielders.

Not only that but there is of course the talents of Dele Alli, it is a fair assessment to say that he has perhaps not reached the same heights as he did last season but at the same time his form was almost exceptional last time around.

If there was ever a time to rediscover your shooting boots then now would be the time to do so for the former MK Dons player, maybe the fact that Tottenham’s talisman is absent will mean the 21 year old’s talent can truly be unleashed once more.

Tottenham do have the players to step up and provide an attacking threat, but we must not forget that they will have huge shoes to fill. Therefore the hope will be that they can get through the next couple of matches unscathed with their cup and top four aspirations still intact.
