It may seem optimistic at best to suggest anyone other than Paris Saint-Germain will win Ligue 1 this season but there are three clubs currently behind them in the table who will continue to believe there is a chance they will slip up.

Two of those teams are Lyon and Marseille and both clubs will be delighted to be back at the top of the league, competing for Champions League football and possibly the Ligue 1 title.

Lyon will host Marseille at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday night in one the biggest matches anywhere in Europe this weekend and a win could see the winner close to within 6 points of Paris Saint-Germain.

The hosts have been in good form in Ligue 1 and trends show they have won seven of their last nine games. However, after a run of twelve games without defeat, Lyon have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions.

There have been defeats across three competitions, with one loss at home to Lille in Ligue 1, one at Atalanta in the Europa League and the other a 4-1 defeat at Montpellier in the Coupe de la Ligue.

At home, Lyon have lost just one of their last ten league games, which was the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lille.  Trends show that both teams have scored in nine of their last twelve home Ligue 1 games and Lyon have failed to score just once in their last thirty-seven home league matches.

Marseille are enjoying a tremendous season and their fans will be thrilled to see them competing at the top of the table.

They come into this match unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions although they did lose out to Rennes on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the Coupe de la Ligue in mid-week.

Trends show Marseille have lost only one of their last fifteen games in all competitions and that defeat came at Guimaraes in the Europa League back at the start of November.  They are on a run of twelve consecutive matches without defeat in Ligue 1.

Marseille are unbeaten in their last seven away Ligue 1 games and have lost just one of their last fifteen on the road.  Marseille have scored in each of their nine away Ligue 1 games this season.

Team news and Lyon will be without the injured Bertrand Traore but having rotated the squad in mid-week, should be close to full strength for this game with Mariano leading the line supported by Nabil Fekir.

Marseille travel to the Groupama Stadium with only one plater, Gregory Sertic, rated as doubtful for the match.  Both Adil Rami and Luiz Gustavo should start having been rested in mid-week and Dimitri Payet will return following suspension.

This is going to be a very entertaining match at the top of Ligue 1 and both teams should find the back of the net.  However, they are closely matched and while a point would not be ideal, this game could easily end in a draw.
