West Ham Desperate for First Points

Last season was the first for West Ham United in their new home of the Olympic Stadium.  It was a tough campaign and many fans did not enjoy being at the new venue and it seemed the players also struggled at the stadium.

However, the finish of eleventh in the Premier League was by no means a disaster and while it signalled a step back from the previous seasons 7th place, it was better than the 2013/14 season and the 2014/15 season.

Slaven Bilic knows he is under pressure to move West Ham higher up the table this season and needs to start winning points fast.

Huddersfield Town won promotion from the Championship last season via the playoffs. Their great season came as a surprise considering their previous performances in the Championship.  Prior to winning promotion last season, Huddersfield Town finished 19th, 17th, 16th and 19th in the Championship, battling relegation.

Everyone had them down as their favourites for the drop this season but can they cause a surprise by staying up and taking points from this match at West Ham?

Trends show West Ham have lost all three of their Premier League games this season.  Their only positive result came in the League Cup at Cheltenham, a match they won 2-0.

A look back over West Ham’s Premier League form shows they have won only three of their last seventeen games and if this form continues throughout the first half of this season, the Hammers are going to struggle.

A look at West Ham’s three league games this season and trends show they have been losing at half-time and full-time, which suggests they have not really been giving themselves a good chance of winning games.

Huddersfield Town have enjoyed a dream start to life in the Premier League and while West Ham sit rooted to the bottom of the table, they are in the lofty position of third place, behind Liverpool and Manchester United.

Trends highlight what a great job Huddersfield have been doing defensively and they are yet to concede a goal this season.  Manchester United are the only other team which can boast the same record.

Huddersfield have played only one away match this season, which was at Crystal Palace but that was where they produced their best performance, winning the game 3-0 and setting themselves up for the good run they are currently enjoying in the Premier League.

Team news and West Ham are without defender Winston Reid who is out with a calf injury.  There are also doubts over Manuel Lanzini, Edimilson Fernandes, Andre Ayew and Michail Antonio.  Marko Arnautovic is suspended.

Huddersfield will travel without Martin Cranie and Jon Gorenc Stankovic who are both injured.  Aaron Mooy is doubtful having missed a game for Australia due to illness but Steve Mouni should be fit to start in attack.

The pressure is on Slaven Bilic to win this match and if things start going against his team, it will be interesting to see how the crowd react.  Huddersfield will need Aaron Mooy in the team to give themselves a chance of winning this match but will back themselves to keep West Ham’s chances down to a minimum.

Expect Huddersfield to come away from this match with at least a point, in what could be a low scoring game.
