You must go back to 2006 to find the last time Poland qualified for the World Cup finals.  They went out at the group stage and were also eliminated at the same stage four years earlier in South Korea and Japan.

Their best placed finish was third in 1982 and they also came third at the 1974 World Cup but since then have failed to make their mark on the tournament.  However, that could be about to change as a talented looking Polish team led by Robert Lewandowski, top UEFA World Cup qualifying Group E by 6 points from second place Montenegro.

Their opponents in this match are Denmark who sit in third place on 10 points, the same number as Montenegro but with a lower goal difference.  The Danes last reached the World Cup in 2010 and they were eliminated at the group stage of the competition.

Trends show Denmark have won three, drawn one and lost two of their six group games. The defeats have come in the reverse fixture against Poland and at home to Montenegro, the latter of which was a very disappointing result.

Home matches in World Cup qualifying have not always gone to plan for the Denmark and despite only losing two of the last eight, they have won only three, drawing the other three games.  The victories have come over Malta, Armenia and Kazakhstan.

Although they are unbeaten in their last five games, three have been draws and Denmark have looked shaky at the back and conceded to Kazakhstan, Montenegro and Czech Republic.

Poland travel to Copenhagen in control of Group E and a win could all but seal their place at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

The Poles are the only unbeaten team in the group and have recovered from their opening game which saw them draw in Kazakhstan by winning their last five group games.  There have been home victories against Denmark, Armenia and Romania plus away wins at Montenegro and Romania.

Trends show Poland have kept just one clean sheet in their six group games but they have more than made up for it with their attacking threat. Poland have scored 15 goals in their six group games at an average of 2.5 goals per game.

Each of Poland’s six group games have seen over 2.5 goals and they have been very entertaining to watch.

Looking ahead to the potential team news and Denmark will be relying on Nicolai Jorgensen to score the goals, with support from Christian Eriksen in midfield.  Kasper Schmeichel will play in goal with central defender Simon Kjaer marshalling the defence.

Poland’s key man is Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and he is top scorer in the group with 11 goals.  He will be looking for support from Jakub Blasczykowski and Piotr Zielinski in midfield.

Poland have scored at least 2 goals in every game in this group so expect them to create plenty of goal scoring opportunities in this match.  We should see goals and Poland have the confidence and ability to come away with maximum points in what could be an exciting game.
