Rosenborg Could Drop Points

Rosenborg are the most successful team in the history of Norwegian football.  With 22 league titles to their name, no other club in the Eliteserien comes close.

The club made history between 1992 and 2004 by winning 13 consecutive Norwegian titles and having failed to win the league between 2011 and 2014, made a return to the top in 2015 and 2016.  Rosenborg are now aiming to make it three titles in a row by winning the 2017 Eliteserien title and they have made a good start.

Rosenborg travel to Kristiansund on Monday night, knowing a win will keep them top of the league table, thanks to their 2-point cushion over Brann going into the weekend fixtures.  Sarpsborg 08 could also go above Rosenborg on goal difference, being 3 points adrift in third.

Trends show Rosenborg have lost just one of their last seven matches in all competitions. The defeat came at the hands of Haugesund in the league two weeks ago.  Rosenborg have played fourteen league games, losing only two this season.

While not being hugely entertaining going forward, Rosenborg have found solidity in defence and boast the best defensive record in the Eliteserien.  Trends show Rosenborg have conceded an average of 0.64 goals per game in the league this season and an average of 0.5 goals in their away league games.

Their opponents for this match, Kristiansund, have been struggling at the foot of the Eliteserien table.  With just four victories from their fourteen matches played, Kristiansund are just 1 point off the relegation playoff place and 2 points away from the relegation zone.

A defeat and other results going against them, could see Kristiansund drop into the bottom two of the Eliteserien this weekend.

Trends show it is just two wins from Kristiansund’s last 8 Eliteserien games but their home form is in stark contrast to that of their away games.  At home Kristiansund have lost only one of their seven league games this season and that was at the hands of Molde at the start of the campaign.

Trends show there have been under 2.5 goals in six of Kristiansund’s seven home games this season and although they have struggled to keep things tight at the back, keeping two clean sheets, they have proven difficult to beat.

Kristiansund are likely to go into this match with a 4-4-2 formation, although defender Erlend Sivertsen is still unavailable due to injury and will remain out for some time.  Rosenborg are hoping Anders Konradsen and Mike Jensen will be fit for this game, with Nicklas Bendtner continuing up-front.

Despite playing a team close to the bottom of the table, Rosenborg could find this a tough match.  They have failed to win their last three games away from home in the league and Kristiansund are strong when playing at home.

A draw with under 2.5 goals is a distinct possibility in this game.
