Fourth place Atletico Madrid host Leganes at the Vicente Calderon in a match they are widely expected to win convincingly. The Madrid-based side currently sit fourth, ten points from city rivals and league leaders, Real Madrid.

Their last fixture which was away to newly promoted side Alaves ended in a stalemate with both teams taking one point apiece.

Although they are ten points off the summit, Atletico Madrid have had a decent season so far, winning ten games, drawing six, and losing just four. They didn't win any of their last two fixtures, drawing both; they are six points off second and third positions and only lead the fifth-placed team by a lone point. They currently occupy the last Champions League spot and will be determined not to risk losing it with a loss this weekend. They are unbeaten in their last five matches but have not had as many wins as they would have loved to.

Leganes just got promoted to the La Liga this season after coming second in the Segunda division last season. They are not having a fine season so far, and they currently occupy the seventeenth position in the league, five points above relegation waters, and a point behind sixteenth place side, Deportivo La Coruna who play Real Betis on Friday.

They lost their last fixture at home against Celta Vigo last weekend and have now gone six matches without a win although they only lost one of their last three fixtures. They will be travelling to the Vicente Calderon hoping everything goes wrong for Atletico and that luck shines on them because based on squad quality and recent form, they have very little chance of coming away with a win.

Both teams have met five times, with Atletico winning three, drawing one and losing just one of the fixtures. Their last meeting ended in a goalless stalemate at the Butarque stadium last August. Leganes will have to maintain incredible discipline and guile to come away with a draw, let alone a win from the fixture.

Atletico will be determined to win this in order to keep within touching distance of Real Madrid and to avoid losing their Champions League spot to Real Sociedad. They are heavy favourites and will most likely win this. There may not be many goals scored considering that both teams are having issues scoring goals recently, so Atletico will likely win this by a very narrow margin.
