Real Betis will kick off round No. 20 of the La Liga season following five straight games without a win.
The Verdiblanco will hope the weekend fixture will bring new hope, as their top-five chances took a blow before the holidays.
Granada will visit Real Betis on Saturday at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. Los Rojiblancos are having a terrible campaign and sit in the relegation zone ahead of the weekend trip to Seville.
Granada won just one of their last six matches in La Liga. The win, which came just before the winter break, gave the team some hope of overturning their relegation woes.
However, five points still separate Granada from safety. As it stands, Almeria look set for relegation, but Granada and Cadiz have an opportunity to get out of danger.
Betis took just seven points from the last six matches in the league. Manuel Pellegrini’s team could not score goals during that six-game span. Betis tallied a mere four goals across the last 540 minutes of La Liga football.
The only good news for Pellegrini during that time frame was that the club conceded a mere four goals to opponents. Real Betis do play well at home.
They are unbeaten at the Estadio Benito Villamarin this season, with a record of 5W-4D-0L. Betis scored 12 goals and conceded just four at home in their nine games.
Granada picked up four points from their last six league fixtures. They were outscored 10-4 across those six games, as goalscoring was a struggle.
Due to the lack of goals scored by both clubs in recent games, Saturday’s match could be low scoring.
These teams played the reverse fixture in September, with it ending 1-1. Betis player Assane Diao scored in the 51st minute but Granada’s Lucas Boye equalised on 67 minutes.
Despite the draw, Betis still have a strong head-to-head record against Granada. Los Verdiblancos have a record of 4W-1D-1L against Granada in their last six head-to-head fixtures.
Granada manager Alexander Medina will be without defender Ricard Sanchez due to a suspension. Goalie Raul Fernandez could miss the game following a muscle injury.
Betis’ Chadi Riad, Youssouf Sabaly, and Abde Ezzalzouli will miss the game due to being on international duty. Defender Hector Bellerin is also ruled out with a leg injury.
Despite the potential for several players to join Betis’ missing quartet, Pellgrini’s team should find a way to defeat Granada at home. Thanks to Betis’ strong defence, the match should end 2-0 in favour of Los Verdiblancos.
