The third qualifying round of the Europa League is upon us this weekend with BATE Borisov heading into this game off the back of a stunning loss in the Champions League qualifiers as Sheriff Tiraspol also suffered a heavy defeat.
BATE lost the first leg of their second qualifying round against Aris Limassol 6-2, as the club saw Artem Kontesvoy and Ruslan Khadarhevich score for them.
The second leg would end 5-3 to Limassol, as Valery Gromyko, Aleksandr Martynov and Denis Laptev all netted a goal each for BATE, although they lost a stunning 11-5 on aggregate in the end.
BATE would defeat Partizani in the Champions League first qualifying round, however, as they drew 1-1 in the first leg away from home before a finish each from Vladislav Malkevich and Aleksandr Shestyuk sealed a 2-0 win on the road.
Back in Belarus, the club are currently sitting with only six wins from 14 games, alongside four draws and four losses.
They have also scored 20 goals, meaning only Dinamo Minsk and Neman have netted more. The club have also let in 14 goals.
BATE would beat Shakhtyor in the Belarusian Premier League back at the start of July, as Denis Laptev and Valery Gromyko scored a goal each.
The rest of their league games are, however, currently postponed.
As for Sheriff, they defeated Petrocub in their last outing over the weekend thanks to a finish from Luvannor Henrique de Sousa Silva in the second half to put the club on a winning start after one game in the Moldovan National Division.
Sheriff were knocked out of the Champions League at the start of this month after taking the lead in the first leg against Maccabi Haifa in the second qualifying round.
Amine Talal scored in the first leg during the first half, and despite him scoring again in the second leg to kick things off with a 2-0 aggregate lead, Sheriff would go on to lose 4-1 that day and head out of the Champions League.
Talal and Sousa Silva were also sent off in that game and will now not be able to play in this encounter, as it is still a UEFA competition.
What's more, Sheriff had just 25% of the ball in that 4-1 loss that went to extra time.
