Assessing BSC Young Boys’ Remarkable Home Record
1349

Over the past few years, BSC Young Boys have established themselves as the dominant force in Swiss Football.

The Bern outfit have claimed five of the previous six Super League titles, winning four in a row between 2017-18 and 2020-21 before regaining the crown in 2022-23.

Thanks largely to their remarkable home record, Young Boys have enjoyed unrivalled success in recent times. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers behind the success.

Believe it or not, Young Boys have avoided defeat in each of their last 25 Super League home games, transforming Wankdorf Stadium into a fortress.

Last season, Raphael Wicky’s side avoided defeat in each of their 15 home league matches, picking up 12 wins and three draws on their way to securing the title.

Young Boys are also yet to taste defeat at Wankdorf Stadium this term, having registered five wins and two draws in the league.

Not only have Wicky’s men taken 17 points from a possible 21 on home soil this season, but they have also scored 21 goals in the process, meaning they average three goals per game.

YB have also netted over 3.5 goals on three occasions this term, thrashing Winterthur 5-2, Lugano 4-1 and Luzern 6-1.

Thanks largely to those victories, Young Boys find themselves second in the Swiss Super League table – one point shy of FC Zurich.

Not only do Wicky’s side boast the best offensive record in the division, but they also possess the second-best defensive record.

Top scorer Jean-Pierre Nsame has netted five of his six league goals on home soil this term, with fellow attackers Meschack Elia, Filip Ugrinic and Cedric Itten chipping in along the way.

It is also worth noting that YB have won two of their four Champions League home games this season, beating Maccabi Haifa 3-0 in the play-offs before defeating Red Star Belgrade 2-0.

Although Young Boys lost 3-1 to both RB Leipzig and Manchester City, they can be proud of their efforts against two of Europe’s strongest teams.

Having avoided defeat in each of their last 25 home league games, Young Boys are well positioned to clinch their sixth Super League title in seven seasons.
