Bayern Munich Win Title in Germany

The big match of the weekend in the German Bundesliga took place at the Allianz Arena as Bayern Munich met Borussia Dortmund. The hosts won the game 3-1, with goals from Serge Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski, and Jamal Musiala.

The only goal for Borussia Dortmund was scored by Emre Can and it came from the penalty spot just after half time.

No one can question the dominance of Bayern Munich and the fact they deserve the title in Germany this season. They will be disappointed not to be playing in a Champions League semi-final this week having been shocked by Villarreal in the quarter-final but it has been mostly business as usual in the Bundesliga.

This is the 10th consecutive league title for Bayern Munich and they have become the first team in the top five European leagues to achieve that feat. The closest to Bayern Munich is Juventus, who won 9 Serie A titles between 2011 and 2020 and Lyon, who won Ligue 1 7 times in succession between 2001 and 2008.

If we look at some of the individuals who stand out for Bayern Munich, Thomas Muller is a prime example of a man who has done it all. By winning the Bundesliga title this season, Muller has the record for the most titles in German topflight history, with 11 to his name.

Muller still has some work to do to catch Ryan Giggs, who won 13 Premier League titles with Manchester United but he is the most decorated man in Bundesliga history.

When discussing the success of Bayern Munich, it is impossible not to mention the name of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international striker has 3 games remaining in the Bundesliga and is 12 goals ahead of his nearest rival in the top scorer charts.

That means Lewandowski is going to win the Kicker-Torjägerkanone and in doing so, he will top the goal scorers chart for the 5th season in a row. The Pole broke the record for the number of consecutive golden boot wins in the Bundesliga last season and could extend the record further if he remains at the Allianz Arena next season.

In total, this season will be the 7th time Lewandowski has won the golden boot in Germany and that sees him draw level with the legendary Gerd Muller. If Lewandowski does remain with Bayern Munich, even for just one more season, it will likely be enough to see him move above Muller, which would be a tremendous achievement.

No team since 2004/05 has scored in more consecutive Bundesliga games than Bayern Munich. The 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund means they have scored in their last 78 Bundesliga matches.

They always find a way to score in games and if Bayern Munich continue to dominate German football next season, they could make it 100 matches, which would be incredible.
