Nagelsmann Set to Dominate Germany With the Bundesliga Now Slightly Weakened
2051

The Bungesliga gets back underway once again this Friday night as Borussia Mönchengladbach welcome the division’s serial winners and champions, Bayern Munich, who are heading for their 31st title in what is arguably their most dominant era to date.

Back in 2013 when the club conquered Europe and won the treble, they were fighting tooth and nail with Borussia Dortmund. However, with this being merely the start of their Bundesliga decade of dominance, Bayern can now be crowned the champions for a 10th year in a row in 2021/22.

As for this year, the champions of Germany could be set for their most dominant year yet. Back in 2019/20 when they won everything again, Hansi Flick got the Bavarians playing some extraordinary stuff as Robert Lewandowski took over every goalscoring chart.

However, Flick has moved on and Julian Nagelsmann has now taken over and whilst they may not immediately hit the incredible heights of Flick, the ex-RB Leipzig manager is looked at as one of Germany’s future greats and this could be the start of something special.

At the same time, clubs around them have only weakened just as they have potentially strengthened on their 199 league goals in the past two seasons.

Jadon Sancho has now finally left Dortmund, whilst Leipzig have, of course, lost their manager and Jesse Marsch will now take the helm as their boss for the upcoming season. Elsewhere, Gladbach have struggled in the last 12 months, as have Bayer Leverkusen without the likes of Kai Havertz

In reality, it’s near impossible to look past Bayern and Lewandowski this campaign. There is an argument for the ever-improving phenom, Erling Haaland, to claim the top scorer spot, but without Sancho and Bayern potentially growing under Nagelsmann, this could be his toughest season yet.

On the other hand, Lewandowski is coming off the back of 71 goals in his last 60 league appearances in the past two seasons, and at that ratio, it’s tough to look past him as the Bundesliga top scorer once more.

In truth, other teams can threaten Bayern if certain things falter under the leadership of their new boss. However, with 199 goals and 160 points from their past two seasons alongside the fact Lewandowski is still Lewandowski after netting three in three at Euro 2020, the champions should make it 10 in a row.

A lot of attention will be on how they return to the European scene, but the addition of Dayot Upamecano and the continuing rise of players like Kinglsey Coman and Leroy Sane, this should be another year of dominance from Bayern in Germany and in fact, be arguably much easier than it has been in recent times.
