Atalanta have qualified for the Champions League 2021-22 season. Although they can still finish fourth in Serie A, Atalanta cannot fall out of the top four.
AC Milan are still fighting for Champions League qualification going into the final day of the Serie A season. The Rossoneri are third in the league and level on points with fourth-place Napoli. Juventus are fifth and just one point back of both AC Milan and Napoli.
A loss for Stefano Pioli’s team on Sunday against Atalanta Bergamo would leave the window open for Juventus to overtake them in the standings. Juventus need to win against Bologna to achieve Champions League football, but need Napoli or AC Milan to lose.
Atalanta are unbeaten in three straight matches versus AC Milan in Serie A. La Dea claimed an impressive 3-0 win earlier this season at the San Siro thanks to goals from Cristian Romero, Josip Ilicic (penalty), and Duvan Zapata.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s team are in good form going into matchday 38. La Dea took 14 points from the last 18 on offer in the league. Each of Atalanta’s last three matches ended in wins.
AC Milan haven’t been quite as good over the course of the last six matches. The Rossoneri took 10 points from the last 18 available to them. They played well defensively allowing just five goals while scoring 13 times.
Atalanta are coming off of the disappointment of losing the Coppa Italia Final on Wednesday night against Juventus. La Dea played valiantly but fell to Juventus 2-1 in the end. It was their second Coppa Italia Final loss in three years.
AC Milan manager Pioli has just one injury going into the game as Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the game with a knee issue. Pioli will also be without midfielder Alexis Saelemaekers due to a suspension.
Gasperini has just one player set to miss the game as Victor Kovalenko will miss the game due to a hamstring strain. Kovalenko’s absence shouldn’t hurt Atalanta’s chances of winning on the final day of the season.
Atalanta lead Serie A in goals scored with 90 in 37 games this season. They average 2.4 goals per game. We should once again see a match with over 2.5 goals scored when AC Milan visit the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.
Four of the last five games between the rivals ended with over 2.5 goals scored. Four of the last six matches finished with both teams scoring.
Sunday’s game should follow both of those trends once more as Atalanta seal a victory on the final day of the campaign.
