League leaders Espanyol host Tenerife on Monday as the penultimate round of 2020/21 Segunda Division fixtures get underway.

Espanyol current sit three points clear of second-place Mallorca at the top of table, having already secured promotion back to La Liga at the first time of asking.

However, a win on Monday would all but secure Espanyol’s title as 2020/21 Segunda Division champions.

On the other hand, Tenerife find themselves eleventh – 31 points behind Espanyol – with nothing left to play for this season.

Following promotion from the Spain’s top-flight last year, it’s safe to say that Espanyol have bounced back in style.

The Barcelona-based club have won 24 of their 40 league games this term, recording nine draws and seven defeats along the way.

With 70 goals to their name, Espanyol are the highest scorers in the division. They also boast the second-best defensive record, having conceded just 26.

Following a 4-1 victory over Ponferradina last time out, Espanyol have only lost one of their previous 17 league games – winning eight of their previous 11.

On the flip side, Tenerife have only managed to win 13 of their 40 matches this term – picking up 11 draws and 16 defeats in the process.

Having scored 33 goals and conceded exactly the same number, Tenerife are the only side in the division with a goal difference of 0.

It is also worth pointing out that only three teams – Alcorcon, UD Logrones and Albacete – have scored fewer goals than Tenerife this term.

Tenerife have lost three of their previous four games and most recently suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Mallorca.

Head-to-head: Following a goalless draw earlier in the campaign, Espanyol are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Tenerife.

In fact, Espanyol have only lost one of their previous seven matches against Tenerife – keeping three clean sheets during that period.

Team news: Espanyol could be without Raul de Tomas on Monday, as the forward has missed a couple of games due to coronavirus.

As for Tenerife, Borja Lasso is still recovering from a fibula fracture, while Giovanni Zarfino is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

Espanyol are on a seemingly unstoppable charge towards become Segunda Division champions, so they aren’t expected to slip up when Tenerife come to town.

Forebet predicts that Espanyol will keep another clean sheet against Tenerife on Monday while scoring over 1.5 goals on their way to victory.
